Broth Cleanses

Our body has the amazing ability to detox on its own. Our colon, kidneys, liver, skin and even lungs are detoxifying the body at all times. So why cleanse?

Our bodies were more able to cleanse naturally but with a highly chemicalised diet, too much saturated and trans fat, too much sugar, too much caffeine, alcohol and medication altered our natural ability to clean out unwanted substances. Our system simply gets overloaded. A cleanse allows the body to take a break from all this. Eliminating highly processed foods that have solid fats and added sugar for a few days can make you feel better and more energized.  It takes 72 hours for the cells in your gut to renew allowing your body to better absorb nutrients.

Traditionally, a cleansing was fasting with “water only”.  Fasting was part of most spiritual traditions. “Almost every religion has some type of fasting ritual – Lent, Ramadan, Yom Kippur… the Hindus and Buddhists fast too,” says James Dillard, MD, assistant clinical professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. 

In Korea, Japan and China, cleansing is a major part of preventive health care.  Herbs are used to give the broth more medicinal qualities and broth is enjoyed as part of daily life. This is important as our bodies absorb vitamins and minerals much better through food than from supplements. Broth cleanse is not only a way to give your body a break from the normal stresses of modern life but also to nourish your body from the inside out with all the collagen, gelatin, minerals and amino acids necessary and vital to a healthy body.
